Finally, the much
awaited good news arrived and Mr. Mehta took a breath of relief. Magically his
sugar level decreased as he got the fresh marriage proposal for his son that
too from Kanpur. It was a drop of rain in a desert. Literally, for Mr. Ram Mehta
it was more than any Indian festival.
Next day morning, Mehtas
suited and booted nicely. Ram Mehta, Geeta Mehta, their only loving son Arun
and along with Punditji (priest) boarded a train to Kanpur.
As soon as Mehtas
reached, they were welcomed with varieties of Indian sweets and snacks but Mr.
Ram Mehta was desperate to see his future daughter in law. And our poor Arun
was little frightened or scared to face the situation. Already, he was rejected
number of times by many girls because of his uncertain career graph.
At the same time,
Gupta family was fully prepared and they were told by Punditji (priest) that
Arun is the most eligible bachelor of the generation. Thus by the advocate of Punditji,
Guptas were in high anticipation.
Eventually, the moment
of truth came. Neha, the daughter of Keshav Prasad Gupta came up with a try
which was loaded up with the cups of tea. Initially, she was nervous and little
scared and somehow she managed to grab some confident. Very nicely she offered
tea to everyone with minimal eye contact with people.
It was the first
family encounter. The situation was tensed and Mr. Mehta didn’t ask anything to
Neha. In one shot she liked her. Neha was tall, smart, and intelligent. She had
done masters in Economics. For the formality Geeta Mehta with the support of Punditji
asked few questions such as; what is your name and tell me something about yourself
& family members including educational background and blah… blah…things.
After a brief marriage
interview she went. Now Arun’s turn came. Raju Gupta, the uncle of Neha started
the so called marriage interview. He started with normal questions which Arun
brilliantly answered him.
The moment Raju
asked; ‘Mama ka Ghar kaha partha hain’,
(what is your maternal uncle’s place?) Arun became quite amazed due to common
question. He had answered the same question in his all marriage interview. And
he arrogantly said, ‘I don’t know but I can show you the exact location through
Google map.’
The series of
questions continued till the next forty minutes, both the sides seemed comfortable
and with the mutual agreement, they allowed Neha and Arun to meet separately. But
still Raju was not yet satisfied with Arun.
To be continued….
