It was a beautiful Sunday morning. The blue sky was
clear and from the Mall Road the majestic Kanchenjunga was clearly visible. The
Mall Road was bit crowded as it was weekend. Many couples & foreign tourist
along with the expensive camera were spotted at the backyard of the Chowrastha
because the backyard was the heaven for the photographers. With the progression
of the time Chowrastha began to fill very hastily as it was the inaugural day of
the Annual Tourist Carnival. Everybody was in very festive mood and the ‘Queen
of the Hills’ Darjeeling was in its full mood to witness the greatest feast of
the season.
All of a sudden from the middle of the crowd the
great sound of gunshot came and a lady started crying, ‘Anand please wake up,
wake up don’t close your eyes. Open your eyes dear.’
In a quick manner the large crowd surrounded the
dead body of Anand Bansal. Due to the massive crowd, the shooter escaped
through them. Quickly the local authorities (event organizers) called the
police and thus, Darjeeling Police came into action. Immediately, police sent
the body for the postmortem and they recorded the first information report.
Evening time, Ravi the son of Late Anand Bansal
reached at the Darjeeling Police Station and he enquired about the
assassination of his father. With the sudden visit of Ravi, Mohan Pradhan the
officer in charge raised his eyebrows and he proceeded cross questioning with
him.
Mohan: Okay Ravi, I am Mohan Pradhan officer in
charge and I am looking after this case. Please tell me about yourself and your
father.
Ravi: sir, I don’t know who gave me the birth. When
I was six months old, my father, Anand Bansal adopted me from an orphanage. I
am the only child of Mr. Bansal and the successor of his business empire.
The moment he said ‘the successor’, officer noted
his diary and they resumed their interactions.
